Cacao is one of the leading causes of agricultural deforestation on the planet, particularly in the Amazon. That's why I decided to join forces with Hoja Nueva 501(c)(3) in developing a 5-year transition sustainable program to support small scale cacao farmers by increasing the price point of their beans via direct trade with US cacao buyers. The financial boost acts as an incentive to use permaculture, agroforestry and other more sustainable farming methods. Thus, the rainforest is also protected from being further cleared.
After 5 years of research and development, we are almost read to launch this program, April 2019. Stay tuned. Or, learn more about the research and development currently underway below.
